BitMicro on Wednesday said that it has produced the first maxIO PCIe solid-state drives, which are powered by the Talino architecture controller formally unveiled late last month. The new enterprise-class solid state drives can deliver up to 400 thousand random 4KB IOPS per one Talino controller.

BitMicro’s initial maxIO product release will be a full height, half-length PCIe solid state accelerator using eMLC flash, allowing it to scale up to 4.5TB of NAND flash. The company plans to offer SLC and MLC flash in the future, and will follow up with the release of maxIO PCIe low profile and maxIO 2.5” SAS SSDs.

BitMicro has designed its maxIO line of SSD products for virtualization, tiered storage, high performance computing, business intelligence and other enterprise applications. MaxIO PCIe SSD comes equipped with patented flash management, data recovery technology, full data path protection and its patented PowerGuard power failure backup technology and advanced security features.

“These first maxIO SSDs begin BitMicro’s entry into the enterprise market. For over a decade we have designed and manufactured SSDs for highly demanding defense and industrial customers. We’re leveraging our experience with mission-critical applications to deliver new feature-rich, high performance and extremely durable SSDs to the enterprise,” stated Zophar Sante, vice president of marketing and sales at BitMicro.

MaxIO SSDs feature BitMicro’s recently announced Talino architecture, which is powered by a special quad-core controller, delivering 400 000 random 4KB IOPS on a single controller. Talino handles data processing without wasting critical server resources.

The Talino ASIC sports eight 5Gb PCIe lanes, two SAS-6Gb/s ports and two Serial ATA-6Gb/s ports. With two ISIP embedded directly into the controller, Talino can even be integrated in a single-tier architecture while incorporating ISIP’s best features. ISIP itself includes hot plug support, RAID configuration support and powerful BCH error correction code. The chip supports Legacy, Toggle 1.0 and ONFI 2.3 flash in single, dual, quad and octal die packages.

“Other suppliers have created their own definitions of an ‘enterprise SSD. We developed maxIO to set a higher standard. The enterprise SSD market is expanding rapidly and customer expectations for cost, performance and capacity continue to climb. MaxIO SSDs are designed to meet the new requirements of today, and address the needs of the future,” said Rey Bruce, chief executive officer of BitMicro.
