Western Digital decided to answer Maxtor with releasing HDD of extremelly high capacities. The company unveiled another Drivezilla series drive with capacity of 200GB and 2MB buffer. In addition, the manufacturer plans to ship Caviar SE hard disk drive with 8MB buffer.
All Drivezilla family now features 7200rpm HDDs with capacities of 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 180 and 200GB. Although Western Digital does not disclose a lot of details about the most expensive product in the line, it is quite clear that the 200GB model makes use of plates with 60GB areal density as well as Fluid Dynamic Bearing Spindle Motors.<%BANNER[article]%>
Pricing and availability questions are not touched upon. Keeping in mind that there is nothing new in the new drive, Western Digital can start the actual sales in a very short time.
