Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) has announced its new enterprise-class hard disk drive (HDD) that appears to be the most advanced 2.5" drive with 10 000rpm spindle speed. Hitachi's Ultrastar C10K600 hard drive boasts higher performance amid lower power consumption than competing solutions.
The Ultrastar C10K600 drive family is offered in 300GB, 450GB and 600GB versions, providing capacity parity with 3.5" drives. The drives feature 64MB of cache as well as SAS-600 interface. Hitachi declares 3ms average latency, 3.7ms sustained seek time as well as sustained transfer rate of 109MB - 179MB. The company claims that of Ultrastar C10K600 hard disk drive consumes 5.6W while operating and 3.1W in unload idle mode.
According to the manufacturer 2.5", 600GB Hitachi drive delivers up to 15% better random and 18% faster sequential performance than competitive products on the market today. The Ultrastar C10K600 drive's operating power specification is at least 22% lower than the competition.
“The Ultrastar C10K600 is closely aligned with customer requirements for increased performance, improved server/storage density, greater power efficiency and lower total cost of ownership. We are proud to establish new power and performance benchmarks with our latest Ultrastar drives, while delivering to customers the proven quality and reliability they have come to expect from Hitachi." said Brendan Collins, vice president of product marketing at Hitachi GST.
The new Ultrastar C10K600 drive family offers optional Bulk Data Encryption for hard-drive-level data security. These self-encrypting models are designed to the Trusted Computing Group’s enterprise A security subsystem class encryption specification and allow customers to reduce costs associated with drive retirement and extend drive life by enabling swift and secure re-purposing of drives.
The Ultrastar C10K600 is now shipping to customers worldwide, and has already been qualified by select OEMs.
