LaCie on Wednesday added solid-state drive (SSD) option to its Little Big Disk Thunderbolt family of external storage solutions, bringing in extreme 635MB/s read speed thanks to Thunderbolt interface and two SSDs in RAID stripe mode.
"We saw an opportunity to make the LaCie Little Big Disk even faster and jumped on it. The new LaCie Little Big Disk can complete tasks in minutes that used to take hours. This saves our customers time and therefore money," said Erwan Girard, professional business unit manager at LaCie.
LaCie Little Big Disk packs a pair of 2.5" SSDs Serial ATA-6Gb/s with 120GB, 256GB or 500GB capacities operating in either stripe (RAID 0) or security (RAID 1) modes. The manufacturer claims that maximum transfer rate of 635MB has been achieved using AJA System Test with 240GB SSDs. LaCie also offers 1TB and 2TB hard drives options for the Little Big Disk for those, who want maximum capacity from their portable storage. It supports daisy chaining up to six compatible devices such as displays and other peripherals.
The Little Big Disk with SSDs can transfer a 50GB project in less than two minutes or edit six uncompressed 422 streams at the same time, which is a game changer for content creators and professional users. Away from the studio, videographers can dramatically reduce the time to publish a project. They simply download their footage directly from a compatible camera to the LaCie Little Big Disk, and begin the edit process in the field.
The LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt series SSD is available in 512GB and 1TB capacities through the LaCie Online Store and LaCie Storage Partners starting at the suggested retail price of $699.00. The Thunderbolt cable is included with purchase. The LaCie Little Big Disk is protected by a three-year limited warranty.
