Mushkin, a leading supplier of advanced computer components and peripherals, said this week that it would begin shipments of Chronos solid-state drives with massive 960GB capacities later this month. The product is aimed at workstations that both high-performance storage as well as significant capacities.
Mushkin Chronos 960GB solid-state drive will come in 2.5” form-factors with Serial ATA-6Gb/s interface and will likely retain general performance characteristics of capacity- and cost-optimized current-generation Chronos drives, which are based on LSI SandForce SF-2281 controllers. Chronos 480GB SSD boasts up to 540MB/s read speed, up to 430MB/s and up to 37000 input/output operations per second.
"With the growing demand for higher capacity and higher performance storage, we are excited to now offer our Chronos SSD in an industry-leading size, and continue our commitment to meeting market needs. For CAD, animation or similar applications where speed and space are key, the new 960GB high-capacity Chronos SSD really shines," said Brian Flood, director of product development at Mushkin.
It is likely that other leading suppliers of solid-state drives, such as Corsair, Crucial, OCZ Technology and others will follow Mushkin with SSDs that feature extra-large capacities. For now, Chronos 960GB will be an exclusive offering from Mushkin.
Pricing of extreme-capacity SSD for workstations or high-end desktops will be revealed towards the start of sales.
