Toshiba Introduces HK3R eSSDs for Tiered Storage Applications

Toshiba Corp., a leading manufacturer of solid-state drives, has announced its HK3R enterprise solid state drive (eSSD) with Serial ATA interface designed for read-intensive applications. The new drives are designed for various tiered storage applications and are not as advanced as those eSSDs that feature SAS interface. Quite naturally, they are also not as expensive as those drives.

 

Toshiba HK3R eSSD is optimized for read-intensive applications such as read-caching, error logging, boot, and low-duty storage applications requiring power-loss-protection and end-to-end data protection features. The HK3R eSSD incorporates Toshiba proprietary QSBC (quadruple swing-by code) error-correction technology, a highly efficient error correction code (ECC), to ensure that customer data is safe and accessible.

The HK3R series comes in 2.5”/7mm form-factor, Serial ATA interface and is based on Toshiba’s 19nm NAND flash memory. The HK3R eSSD is available in 120GB, 240GB and 480GB capacities and supports one full drive write per day with 100% random data, aligned 4KB workload. The HK3R eSSD delivers enterprise-class reliability and consistent, sustained high performance over the life of the product. Additionally, the HK3R eSSD carries a 5-year limited warranty.

The HK3R 120GB, 240 GB and 480GB customer samples will begin shipping in December 2013.
