GigaCube, a subsidiary of Info-Tek Corporation that became known in early March for its presumable ties with Gigabyte Technology, recently decided to sell its graphics cards without any brand-names on the boxes and to OEM and SI clients only.
Probably the move to sell white boxes was done in order to distinguish GigaCube company from Gigabyte company we are familiar with for its mainboards and graphics cards, as Gigabyte Technology would not be happy to rival with a company it has ties with. On the other hand, since GigaCube’s clients are mostly OEMs and System Integrators, they definitely are not interested in any brand-names or stylish retail boxes, but in competitive prices.
Last time we talked about GigaCube on the 12th of March we told you why we think Gigabyte and GigaCube have, at least, very close ties. Today we read over DigiTimes that both companies are headed by Dandy Yeh, the chairman of Gigabyte and Gigacube, apparently.
Later this month GigaCube will start to deliver its partners RADEON 9800, RADEON 9600 and RADEON 9200-series based graphics cards. The company said it does not give up plans of entering retail market as well, but at this point it will concentrate on OEM and SI clients what is quite natural given that Info-Tek Corporation is a contract manufacturer.
