Xabre Graphics Incorporated, also known as Extreme Graphics Innovation, outlined its strategy recently. The company hopes to unveil a number of graphics processors to fill different market segments from top to bottom. Besides, the SiS subsidiary does not want to engage a price war with the rivals ATI and NVIDIA.

In an interview to an Asian web-site DigiTimes, XGI president Chris Lin said that his company main target is to become profitable within three years. The designer of graphics processor will not focus only on the lower-end solutions, but will also try to sell its products into performance mainstream market as well.

XGI recognizes that acquisition of Trident Graphics was very important for the startup since besides Trident’s patents and inventory, XGI also got a boost in attracting talents for its research, sales and marketing teams, which it says are now in place. XGI plans to maintain Trident’s product lines and customer base but will release a series of low-end, medium-range and high-end graphics chips by year-end, including a new generation of chips in September, according to Chris Lin.

Frankly speaking, XGI is a bit too optimistic with its predictions since positions of SiS and Xabre have been pretty weak in the USA and Europe, whereas Trident has also been a niche player for some time now. It will take some time until XGI will be recognized by end-users and before that the company has to invest heavily in research and development. Given that NVIDIA and ATI spend about half a billion to develop a family of products, XGI will be extremely hard to compete with the giants in terms of performance and innovation.
