A Chinese web-site said that ASUSTeK Computer itself would shortly unveil its NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 SE-based graphics card with lowered price and performance.

We told you yesterday that Gainward and Leadtek had already started to supply their GeForce FX 5900 SE powered products into retail markets around the world, and now MyHard.com reports that ASUS follows its rivals with cheaper NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 solution. Unfortunately, we can still tell you nothing about the actual recommended pricing of GeForce FX 5900 SE products, but they are definitely not supposed to be expensive.

So far all NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 SE-based graphics cards featured 400MHz GPU, 128MB of 256-bit memory clocked at 700MHz as well as D-Sub, DVI-I and TV-Out connectors. Cost advantages over the typical GeForce FX 5900 products imply a simplified version of PCB and slower 2.8ns memory.

It is believed that NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 SE-based solutions will help NVIDIA to boost sales of its 5900-series of GPUs. It means that the company now has more GeForce FX 5900 graphics processors that it did in early Summer, but the demand for such products may not be as high and the company originally projected and this is a reason why it was decided to roll-out a product with lowered price. On the other hand, there are reports about rising prices of higher-end DDR SDRAM memory and as high-end memory prices continue their move upwards, graphics cards makers may try to maintain the costs of their products without sacrificing the margins by announcing graphics cards with cheaper memory. That may be another reason why such graphics cards appear in the retail market.
