VideoNVIDIA Owned 73% of Professional Market in Q2 2003!Category: Video by Anton Shilov [ 10/02/2003 | 04:19 PM ]
NVIDIA Corporation held the number one market share in professional segment in the second quarter of the year, based on the results from the latest IDC market probes quoted by Amazon International web-site. The Number Two company in the professional graphics segment is ATI Technologies, but its shares are tangibly lower compared to NVIDIA’s across all professional markets. Niche players like 3Dlabs, Matrox or Appian address their own customers and do not expand these days; hence, their market shares are not really high.
On the whole, the professional market is divided into 2D and 3D segments. The 3D market is a bit larger and represents 54% of the total market, the 2D is a bit smaller in terms of units and represents only 46%. In the general professional market – both 2D and 3D – NVIDIA’s share is 73%, ATI Technologies’ – 13%, 3Dlabs’ – 4% and other companies, such as Matrox, Appian, HP and so on, occupy 9% of the market. In the 3D segment of the market NVIDIA holds its crown with 67%, ATI is the second with ATI 24% and 3Dlabs manages to hold 9% of the market. It is interesting to note that according to IDC professional 3D market grew 10% quarter-over-quarter in terms of units. NVIDIA also scored the 2D market in the second quarter: the firm owns 53% share, while Matrox has the second spot with only 19%, while other companies, primarily ATI Technologies and Appian, occupy 28%. In the Q2 the professional 2D market saw growth of more than 17% quarter-over-quarter. In case the numbers are absolutely correct and represent sales of actually supplied units, we can clearly recognize NVIDIA’s number one position in the professional segment. Given that the company’s Quadro FX graphics cards still boast with performance higher compared to competitors, while the Quadro 4 family is still popular among professionals, no surprises that NVIDIA is able to sustain its leadership positions in the second quarter. In the third quarter, however, the picture may be different because NVIDIA has had some transitions, while ATI introduced a number of new models. Related news
