Power Color officially announced Thursday that it would supply faster versions of RADEON 9600 XT-based graphics cards into the market shortly. The company seems to be the first to announce an overclocked product powered by the latest VPU from Markham, Ontario-based ATI Technologies.

The RADEON 9600 XT graphics processor unveiled late September 2003 by ATI Technologies is generally based on the RADEON 9600-architecture launched this Spring. The VPU implements 4 rendering pipelines, 128-bit memory controller for 128MB or 256MB of DDR SDRAM memory and offers a 500MHz core-speed, up 100MHz from the RADEON 9600 PRO, ATI’s previous mainstream graphics solution.

Power Color’s RADEON 9600 XT “Bravo Edition” graphics cards will have faster memory speeds than 600MHz DDR provided by graphics cards made according to the reference design. VPU speed will not be changed and is expected to be at original 500MHz. Power Color said there will be two “Bravo Edition” RADEON 9600 XT graphics cards.

RADEON 9600 XT 128MB “Bravo Edition” has its memory clocked at whopping 760MHz, up 160MHz from ATI’s suggested speed. RADEON 9600 XT with 256MB “Bravo Edition” has VIVO functions in addition to a slight boost of memory frequency to 680MHz. Additionally, Power Color will equip ordinary RADEON 9600 XT graphics cards with 2.8ns memory, a slight improvement over 3.3ns offered by Canada-based VPU designer.

“Bravo Edition” graphics cards are also said to feature trendy fans with lighting LEDs. Such simple visual improvements are adored by advanced users and so-called hardware modders nowadays.

The Power Color RADEON 9600 XT-series graphics cards will be available in November at $199 to $299 price-points. The product bundle will include Half-Life 2 coupon in addition to other necessary goods.

1.
3.3 ns = 300 MHz
2.8 ns = 360 MHz

Doesn't sound like a "slight" improvement to me.
