Graphics giant NVIDIA Corp. Monday unveiled a lineup of its PCI Express graphics products for professional users. Based on the approved GeForce FX and GeForce 6800 technology, the new graphics processing units can now serve in the latest workstations featuring Intel Xeon processors and PCI Express x16 slots.

NVIDIA’s new family of professional graphics cards includes Quadro FX 4400, Quadro FX 4400G, Quadro FX 1400 and Quadro FX 540. The Quadro FX 4400-series is based upon the GeForce 6800 technology and delivers similar capabilities, e.g., Shader Model 3.0. The Quadro FX 1400 and 540 are based on the GeForce FX architecture.

Today’s Quadro FX graphics cards operate with PCI Express x16 graphics bus using special bridge chip called High-Speed Interface.

NVIDIA’s Quadro FX 4400 features 512MB of GDDR3 frame buffer memory clocked at 1100MHz, a 256-bit memory interface, 3-pin stereo support, and dual DVI display connectors. The FX 4400G adds genlock and framelock capabilities to above mentioned features. Both Quadro FX 4400-series graphics cards are capable of working in so-called SLI mode. SLI is a technology that enables two NVIDIA Quadro FX graphics cards to operate in a single workstation delivering higher graphics horsepower.

NVIDIA’s new series of Quadro FX PCI Express x16 lineup is being demonstrated at Siggraph 2004 conference in Los Angeles, California. Commercial availability of the family is expected at a later date.
