An official for PowerColor Computer Inc., a subsidiary of Tul Corporation based in the City of Industry, California, said the company has not ship allegedly fake RADEON 9600 PRO SKUs into the USA and that the country’s market is free of forged graphics cards reported to be available in some other countries.

“We double checked with our product manager and we didn’t have this model and we’ve never heard about this model in US market. This may be the single case happened in other countries and really has nothing to do with our US territory.” said Simon Lee, a spokesperson for PowerColor Computer.

On Monday X-bit labs released a story about fake RADEON 9600 PRO graphics cards with PowerColor badge on them. At least some of ‘PowerColor’ RADEON 9600 PRO graphics card that are available on the market today use RADEON 9550 graphics chip with re-soldered resistors, instead of the RADEON 9600 PRO visual processing unit, according to a brief investigation of an X-bit labs bureau in Moscow, Russia.

The potentially forged RADEON 9600 PRO graphics cards are marked with R96T-QC3 marking, whereas all Tul Corp.’s RADEON 9600 PRO that may be available in the USA are marked as R96-HD3 and R96-HC3. The company also provided X-bit labs a least of graphics cards that are officially imported into the United States, which can be obtained over here.

To prevent possible forgery in the future, Tul Corp. in Taipei, Taiwan, has initiated actions that include sending out warnings to its close partners, posting an important announcement on the web-site to its end customers, as well as distributing an official statement to the press worldwide. Moreover, Tul is in the process of originating a laser sticker on its upcoming packages so that customers can recognize the genuine PowerColor products upon purchase.
