Southeast Asia-based media has published photos of what is claimed to be ATI’s next-generation R600 graphics processing unit (GPU). Without giving any particular details, the photos reveal somewhat strange placement of the relatively large chip on the substrate.

Earlier it was reported that AMD/ATI code-named R600 graphics processor is the first ATI’s chip compliant with DirectX 10 standards. Previously released information also says that R600 will have 64 unified shader processors, 16 texture units, clock-speeds well beyond 650MHz – 700MHz and support for high-speed GDDR4 memory controller. Some sources also suggested that the R600 will have 512-bit physical memory interface.

The chip is rumoured to be produced using 80nm process technology. The approximate number of transistors is yet unclear.

Who needs this when the 360 and PS3 easily rivals todays pc gpu cards?

Of course Ill eventually buy one once Crysis and UT2007 comes out. But just to replay Oblivion with smoother framerates with 16AA isnt worth it.

The only reason why I have to go Ati is because of motherboard chipset limitation. Nvidia is greedy! If user wants SLI they have to get
a board with a nForce chipset and for me I don't want a nForce chipset. Me want a Intel chipset, not because I like Intel or anything, it's more of towards compability issues and stability. Some software are picky and they will only work on certain chipsets and one of the most common picked is Intel. And the only 2 graphic gpu solution as of now for motherboards with a Intel chipset is Ati's CrossFire.

I know that AMD has merged with Ati and basically took over like the whole company. but to me Ati is still Ati.
My very first card was a Ati Rage XL at 8mb then it was a
Rage128 at 32mb. :)

8800GTX has 128 Stream Processors
and they can be anything form Pixel Shaders and Vertex Shaders if they want to.

It is also capable of GDDR4 as well.

R600 what!

Has 80NM

G80 90NM (Nano Metres)

G80= Best
R600= SHit

G80 Beats them in all 3D Mark 06 Scores

My vote is G80
