PC Partner, a large holding that deals with manufacturing of various graphics cards and motherboards, said on Wednesday that it plans to acquire several companies to streamline its manufacturing and eventually make certain savings. The decision will means that the product lineup may be somewhat changed going forward, as the company may tailor its offerings for performance or low-cost.
“Our current focus is the integration of our upstream and downstream parts production to lower manufacturing costs, and to that end we are on track to acquiring a Taiwan-based cooling maker in 2007, and also plan to purchase a Taiwan-based maker of motherboard and graphics card ports,” said Tony Wong, president of PC Partner, in an interview with DigiTimes web-site.
Currently Sapphire uses coolers from companies like Zalman and acquires connectors from Foxconn and Wieson. But own-production components may be much more affordable and may be also tailored for particular graphics card, targeting performance or value.
“We are also negotiating with some Taiwan-based PCB makers on cooperation to assist PCB supply control and reduce costs. The cooperation could be a strategic alliance, shares purchase or acquisition,” said Mr. Wong.
The claims made by the president of PC Partner, the owner of Sapphire and Zotac graphics cards brands, indicated that the company still believes in the development of the graphics card market and will continue to broaden its manufacturing capabilities to increase the amount of products shipped.
