Galaxy Technology, a well-known supplier of graphics cards, is preparing to release a new dual-chip graphics solution that is most likely to be powered by two Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 graphics processing units (GPUs). The novelty will compete against Asus ROG Mars limited edition graphics board that was released earlier this year.

Expreview web-site has discovered a picture of a mysterious “Masterpiece” dual-GPU graphics card from Galaxy that featured 16 memory chips. The amount of memory ICs implies that the board has two 512-bit memory buses. Since even the next-generation GeForce Fermi-GF100 has 384-bit memory bus, the only dual-chip solution that Galaxy may be preparing is a two-way GeForce GTX 285.

The novelty from Galaxy will beat the current flagship GeForce GTX 295 graphics board and will compete against Asustek Computer’s ROG Mars. Nevertheless, it will still be unable to rival ATI Radeon HD 5970 that features two ATI Cypress graphics processors with DirectX 11 and ATI Eyefinity support. On the other hand, the two-way GeForce GTX 285 features PhysX processing and stereoscopic 3D technology, something valuable for those, who own monitors with 120Hz refresh rate.

Galaxy’s dual-GPU GeForce GTX 285 should cost considerably less than ATI Radeon HD 5970, which retails for $599, which will be rather hard to achieve, considering complex 14-layer print-circuit board and other factors. Asustek’s ROG Mars used to cost $1700 back in June.

Galaxy Technology refused to provide further comments, however, it indicated that that the new Masterpiece-series premium graphics card will be released by Christmas.

1.
This makes zero sense as the Radeon HD 5970 leaves it in a disturbing pile of dust. Making something "new" with older technology is a waste of time.
