The GeForce FX graphic processor seems to be just around the corner, and this web-site unveiled some performance figures of the forthcoming solution. Needless to say that the new NVIDIA chip is a lot better compared to the RADEON 9700 PRO in a number of cases, as the product that comes in almost half a year after the rival should be better in some ways.
Unfortunately, the performance figures are relatively abstract, as there are no details about the test-setup, driver versions and so on. So, take them as they are and keep in mind that the drivers of the GeForce FX have not been released officially so far, just like the actual graphics cards.<%BANNER[article]%>
There are very few benchmark results and we cannot make any conclusions about the results as, firstly, the drivers of the GeForce FX are not ready to go at the moment, secondly, the actual configurations of the final graphics cards may be a bit different compared to the preliminary devices, thirdly, NVIDIA prohibited the reviewers to publish any results of the tests that stress memory bandwidth of the GeForce FX, finally, there are simply too few results to form positive or negative opinion at this point. What we see now is that the NVIDIA’s new graphics processor can beat the competing device from ATI in Quake3 when using FSAA at high resolutions by up to 40%. Basically, the game is presently too simple and the NV30’s higher fillrate and NVIDIA’s traditionally fast OpenGL drivers condition such results even despite of lower peak memory bandwidth. In the UT2003 game the GeForce FX does not have so high performance advantage over the competitor, just about 17%, furthermore, the newcomer is 9% behind ATI’s RADEON 9700 PRO in 3DMark Game4 that stresses the whole PC-system.
