Leaker Apologizes to Apple Computer. Apple Settles With Man Who Leaked Software

Last year Apple Computer sued Doug Steigerwald for copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation. Because of his actions thousand of users downloaded an upcoming Apple’s latest Mac OS X Tiger operating system. Now it seems that court meetings are over, at least for Doug Steigerwald, who reached an agreement with the computer manufacturer.

“Neither Cupertino-based Apple nor Steigerwald would discuss terms of the settlement. But Raleigh, N.C.-based attorney Joe Cheshire, who represents Steigerwald, said his client would pay monetary damages to Apple,” claims Yahoo! News web-site.

As part of the settlement, Steigerwald also had to sign and distribute a repentant statement.

“Although I did not mean to do any harm, I realize now that my actions were wrong and that what I did caused substantial harm to Apple, and for that I am truly sorry, I am grateful for the chance to resolve this lawsuit and move on with my life and hope that any publicity generated by this lawsuit discourages others from making the same mistake as I did,” said in an e-mail through his attorney Doug Steigerwald, who graduated in December.

Wildcat Realizm 800 Professional Graphics Card Reviewed. 3Dlabs’ Professional Multi-GPU Solution Investigated

AnandTech has reviewed 3Dlabs Wildcat Realizm 800 workstation graphics card, which is currently the top offering among 3Dlabs product gamily. The Wildcat Realizm 800 has two visual processing unit each connecting a discreet vertex unit which is called a Vertex/Scalability Unit (VSU) for higher geometry performance.

“Looking back over the SPECviewperf benchmarks that we’ve shown today, the 3Dlabs Wildcat Realizm 800 is slower than the FireGL X3-256 under insight and the Quadro FX 4000 under UGS. Improvement over the Realizm 200 is generally between 15 and 30 percent. This seems to suggest to us that 3Dlabs lowered the clock speed of the GPUs a bit in order to compensate for the added heat. There is quite a bit of highly clocked silicon under the hood of the Wildcat Realizm 800, and it would definitely make sense to drop the clocks a little bit to compensate,” concludes AnandTech.
