AMD Launches “AMD Turion 64” into the Sky. AMD Teases Crowd at Intel Developer Forum

11:57 pm | Anton Shilov

Advanced Micro Devices decided to remind about itself to the crowd near Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA, heading to the Intel Developer Forum in a rather extravagant way: by writing “AMD Turion 64 Mobility” in the sky.

AMD traditionally does not organize any world-class gatherings of developers, analysts and journalists, but usually has some interesting products to show during Intel’s main Developer Forums in Spring and Fall. This time the world’s second largest maker of x86 microprocessors decided to attract attention to its forthcoming AMD Turion 64 chips, though, the firm is also reported to demonstrate some of its dual-core products in San Francisco as well.

Microsoft’s Chairman Knighted by Britain’s Queen. Bill Gates Receives Honorable Award

11:56 pm | Anton Shilov

The co-founder of Microsoft and one of the world’s richest men Bill Gates was awarded an honorary knighthood by Britain’s Queen this week for his contribution into global improvement of quality of life.

According to the U.K. Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the honorary knighthood recognizes Gates’ contributions to improving health and reducing poverty in parts of the Commonwealth and elsewhere in the developing world. Gates also was recognized for his contribution to enterprise, employment, education and the voluntary sector in the United Kingdom.

“I am humbled and delighted. I'm particularly pleased that this honor helps recognize the real heroes our foundation supports to improve health in poor countries. Their incredible work is helping ensure that one day all people – no matter where they are born – will have the same opportunity for a healthy life, and I'm grateful to share this honor with them,” Mr. Gates said in his statement.
