News around the WebSunday, April 17, 2005Soyo Aims to Make PC Accessories. Soyo BayOne XP 9-In-1 Multi-Card Reader Reviewed 10:14 pm | Yaroslav LyssenkoSoyo has always been known mostly for its mainboards, but increasing competition forced the company to start making some other devices too. Adrian’s Rojak Pot has reviewed Soyo BayOne XP 9-in-1 multi-card reader. This device designed for standard 3.5” and 5.25” drive bays supports eight different types of flash media: Smart Media, Secure Digital, MultiMedia, Sony Memory Stick, Sony Memory Stick Pro, both types of Compact Flash, IBM Microdrive and a slot for next generation of SD. Four flash memory slots offer simultaneous read and write capabilities, bootable feature, and hot-swapping. “The Soyo BayOne XP is a high quality card reader. It’s an internal solution which means less clutter on your table. Soyo paid attention to the small details that makes the BayOne XP really enjoyable to own and use. They included black and silver bezels in addition to the standard beige bezel so that we won’t have to worry about matching it with the color of the case (which is a good thing). They also covered the USB cable in a nice wire mesh sleeve so that it won’t look ugly for those of us who have windowed cases. The BayOne XP also has an activity light to show when power is running through it or when a card is inserted as well as whenever there’s activity. The only gripe I could possibly think off is the 5.25” bay adapter as it only comes in beige. But overall, I am very happy with this card reader,” concludes Acer Sets Up GPS on Mainstream PDA. Global Positioning in Your Pocket: a Myth, or Reality? 10:08 pm | Yaroslav LyssenkoTrustedReviews has taken a look at Acer n35 Personal Digital Assistant. This devise is powered by a 266MHz Samsung microprocessor with 64MB of built-in memory and screen resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The main feature of this device is a built-in GPS module with the Destinator 3 navigation software. “Once it got going though Destinator did an adequate job of giving directions with the route laid out in blue. The speaker was also clear enough to be heard comfortably in the car. The view can be set to either 2D or 3D and the latter has quite a high angle on the road. This is good though as it enables you to see the route quite far ahead,” writes TrustedReviews.
