Cell Phones to Receive Anti-Theft Alarm. New Phone Will Scream if It Is Stolen

11:57 pm | Yaroslav Lyssenko

Although an average user notices the absence of his or her cell phone in only 30 seconds, in most cases by that time it is almost impossible to get the phone back.

Associated Press reports that now if your mobile telephone is stolen, you can scream - and your phone can, too. A new service launched Monday is designed to deter mobile phone theft by equipping telephones with an ear-piercing scream. A new service from mobile device management company Synchronica aims to help victims of theft strike back.

Synchronica’s mobile phone management software Mobile Manager can remotely lock and wipe data from mobile phones as soon as their owners report the loss. If the phone has been stolen, companies can also turn on the Synchronica Scream Feature, causing an annoying and embarrassing high pitched wail to be emitted from the stolen device.

“Using our service, crime victims can be reassured that their information is immediately removed from the stolen phone, along with the satisfaction of annoying the thief with a screaming handset,” said Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica.

Apart from ‘screaming’ security there are means of cell phone data back-up as well.

“All customers’ information is centrally stored, so contacts, ringtones, pictures, texts and other data can be retrieved when a new handset is purchased. The service costs about $18 a month.

The goal of the service is to make mobile phones useless to anyone but the rightful owner,” said Mark Whiteman, the managing director of Remote XT.
