News around the WebTuesday, November 7, 2006Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 Pushed to 5.70GHz. Overclocked Intel Core 2 Extreme Breaks SuperPi Records 9:14 am | Yaroslav LyssenkoAlthough the highest ever operating frequency has been achieved by the outdated NetBurst micro-architecture based Intel Pentium 4 central processing unit, the crown of the fastest ever SuperPi calculation is now officially held by Intel’s contemporary Core 2 microprocessor. The record-breaking results were obtained by famous overclocker OnePageBook, who overclocked Intel’s dual-core Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 microprocessor by nearly two times using liquid nitrogen and Asus P5W64 mainboard. OnePageBook managed to push his Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor to over 5.70GHz from the stock frequency of 2.93GHz, close to an impressive 100% overclock, and set the world’s record in SuperPi calculations. “Now he has once again improved his own world records of all SuperPi benchmarks: 1M, 8M and 32M. To finish it all off he pushed he became the first person ever to push a Core 2 Duo over 5.7GHz, thus a world record,” writes NordicHardware. Sony Allows Press to Play PlayStation 3. Sony PlayStation 3 Works Well, Says Journalist 9:14 am | Yaroslav LyssenkoSony Computer Entertainment America has held an event for press recently to showcase the strengths of the PlayStation 3 game machine and allow media to play the games designed for the new console. While a typical press conference would hardly seem significant, the most important thing is that, according to a Cnet News.com report the new console works well, it does not need constant reboots, and is basically ready for launch. “From the street, it’s not clear why such an event would matter, but inside, on two floors filled almost literally to the rafters with high-definition TVs and PS3s, it’s obvious that this is the center of the video game universe today. And that’s borne out by the fact that nearly every important American video game journalist is on hand,” starts the coverage. At the press event Sony unveiled the PS3 launch titles lineup, as well as information about the next-generation console’s peripherals, online and networked functions and so on. Most importantly, after the official part Sony allowed to try out some upcoming titles on the actual gaming hardware, the PlayStation 3 itself. “But now, everyone has moved to two levels above for hours of video game play, cocktails and light snacks. And for anyone who has wanted to try out the PS3, this is the best chance they’ll get before the Nov. 11 Japanese or Nov. 17 North American launch of the much-anticipated console,” Cnet News.com reports. “The graphics are beautiful - as should be expected. But as I’ve written before, the problem with such realistic graphics is that anything unrealistic stands out. And in every next-generation sports game I’ve seen where the realism is so good that you can see muscles rippling, the players’ ghostly, vacant eyes leave me feeling so creepy I just want to slink away,” writes the author.
