News around the WebWednesday, August 2, 2006Electronic Entertainment Expo to Shrink – Report. Smaller is Better: E3 Gets Small 1:26 pm | Yaroslav LyssenkoEleven years ago Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) started as a small event with an aim to improve relationship between game publishers and retailers. Nowadays, E3 turned into a major year event in the game industry, with more than 60 000 attendees in May. But not everyone is happy with such a huge event. According to CNET News.com, on Monday, the Entertainment Software Association announced that it is scaling back the Electronic Entertainment Expo, as the event no longer meets the demand of the game industry. “E3 Interactive Media Festival,” will likely be an invite-only event in July 2007, and it probably will have less than 7,000 attendees. The idea, he said, is to give publishers an opportunity to interact directly with media outlets in small settings without all the hoopla”, said ESA president Douglas Lowenstein in an interview with CNET News.com. ESA’s idea finds a lot of support since smaller event also means less money spending by companies involved. “If I can get the president of EA (to sit down in a small meeting) with the president of the major retailers - the guys who are going to buy a huge amount of these products. I don’t need an 80-foot-by-80-foot exhibit to accomplish big things,” said Stephen Schuldenfrei, president of the Trade Show Exhibitors Association. Web-Site Reviews Quad SLI Power Supply. Silverstone Quad SLI PSU Review 1:25 pm | Yaroslav LyssenkoThe never-ending demand for higher performance has brought a completely new line of products to the market. With the introduction of the Nvidia SLI technology it became possible to install two graphics cards in a single system. As the technology matured Santa Clara, California-based chip designer decided to double the number of graphics cards in SLI system and the quad SLI concept was born. But quad SLI is more than just four graphics processors in a system! Apart from theoretically unseen level of performance, quad SLI systems have considerably higher requirements for power supply units’ (PSU) power output. To fulfill the power hunger of four GPUs, Silverstone has introduced its’ Zeus 850W ST85ZF Quad SLI PSU. Overclock3D.Net has taken a close look at this premium class product in order to determine whether Silverstone has succeeded in delivering a true quad SLI system power supply unit. “The Silverstone Zeus 850w was placed under a load of 646 watts. This counts for a total of 76% of the power supplies rated output. At this load, the power supply required 786 watts from the mains to produce the 646 watts required by our custom made power supply tester,” says the article. “The Silverstone Zeus 850w has some of the most stable rails on any power supply we’ve tested to date. With less than 0.5% voltage fluctuation on all of the rails, this brings the ST85ZF in direct competition with some of the biggest names in the power supply market,” concludes the author.
