News around the WebFIRST Robotics Competition 2005 Kicks OffOver 25 Thousand Students to Participate in Robotics Competitionby Anton Shilov [ 01/11/2005 | 12:37 PM ] As technology evolves, more and more things can be outsourced to robots, saving time, money and health of people. To demonstrate their latest achievements and learn something new about robots, around 25 thousand of students from countries like USA, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Mexico, Ecaudor and Israel come together to FIRST Robotics Competition, a set of events where high school students, sponsored and assisted by local companies and volunteers, design, assemble, and test a robot capable of performing a specified task in competition with other teams. <%BANNER[article_nw]%>“The 2005 game, ‘Triple Play’ is a sort of massive three on three tic tac toe that takes place on a 27x54 foot field, where robots attempt to stack tetras (the game pieces are tetrahedrons in shape) in one of 9 goals. Three goals are at midfield and three at either end. Robots will claim ownership of goals by stacking tetras; the highest tetra wins the goal. Each match will last 2 and 1/4 minutes and feature two three-team alliances. The game features a mixture of autonomous and remote controlled periods, with the bulk of the match being under remote control,” reports ExtremeTech web-site. Discussion |
