TrustedReviews has posted an article containing a head-to-head comparison of DVD recorders: ASUS DRW-1608P has been compared with LG GSA-4163B DVD burner. Both devices offer similar specifications but LG’s product additionally supports DVD-RAM, while ASUS bets on higher data writing speeds.

“The Asus DRW-1608B is a little picky when it comes to media, but its’ still a lightning fast drive. If you’re planning on burning a lot of dual layer discs, this drive will save you masses of time, while it’s just a firmware flash away from DVD-R DL too, like the NEC ND-3520. Factor in the low retail price and you really are getting cutting edge performance and features at a bargain price. If it wasn’t for the media problems, the Asus would be walking away with an Editor’s Choice award, but even as it stands it deserves to be Recommended,” writes TrustedReviews.

“I don’t think I’ve ever done a head 2 head before where both products win an award, but these drives are both excellent for different reasons. The Asus is, without a doubt the fastest drive I’ve ever seen, despite its media issues, but the LG offers ultimate flexibility, and decent performance at a truly bargain price. Which of the drives is right for you is down to your personal needs - I’d go for the LG because I use DVD-RAM, but if you don’t need DVD-RAM support and speed is paramount, the Asus will be more attractive. Whichever drive you decide is right for you, one thing’s for sure, you won’t be disappointed,” concludes the author.
