Although the highest ever operating frequency has been achieved by the outdated NetBurst micro-architecture based Intel Pentium 4 central processing unit, the crown of the fastest ever SuperPi calculation is now officially held by Intel’s contemporary Core 2 microprocessor.

The record-breaking results were obtained by famous overclocker OnePageBook, who overclocked Intel’s dual-core Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 microprocessor by nearly two times using liquid nitrogen and Asus P5W64 mainboard. OnePageBook managed to push his Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor to over 5.70GHz from the stock frequency of 2.93GHz, close to an impressive 100% overclock, and set the world’s record in SuperPi calculations.

“Now he has once again improved his own world records of all SuperPi benchmarks: 1M, 8M and 32M. To finish it all off he pushed he became the first person ever to push a Core 2 Duo over 5.7GHz, thus a world record,” writes NordicHardware.
