Cooler Master MH630 Headset Review – A Truly Solid Budget Option!

As you might have noticed we talk quite a bit about solid budget options in our articles. This is due to the fact that budget products do not mean that they will be dirt cheap and extremely bad quality anymore.

You can find solid budget options for monitors, mice, keyboards, and headsets without having to break your bank. Today we will discuss one of such great budget options when it comes to gaming headphones.

Here are the reasons why we would recommend you get an MH630 headset from Cooler Master!

Sound Capabilities

The first thing you look at when buying a headset is of course the way it sounds. In this department the MH630 fairs well considering its 50-60$ price point. The headset rocks 50mm drivers with a frequency response of 15-25000Hz.

The MH630 gaming headset also has a sensitivity of 103dB and has an impedance of 32ohms.

From looking at these specs you can already tell that this is no audiophile headset, and it certainly does not sound like one. Does that mean that the MH630 headset sounds bad? No.

The headset sounds very neutral and does not try to overcompensate. The bass is tight and the highs are nice and crisp.

Honestly, the MH630 sounds quite a bit better than what you would expect from headphones that cost only 50$ but they will also sound flat and unimpressive to someone that has tried better headphones already.

Overall the headset does a good job at sounding good in games and while consuming media. The sound of course lacks some clarity and depth because of the 32-ohm impedance, but the directional sound is as clear as it can get considering the soundstage is pretty narrow because these headsets are closed back.

Even though it sounds like we are quite unimpressed with the sound quality we need to once again stress out that these headphones can go as low as 50$ in price which means they sound phenomenal for their price range and this was noted not only by us!

Microphone Quality

One of the biggest reasons we would recommend the MH630 headset is the microphone performance.

The microphone quality can’t rival a standalone mic or some better mic capsules that come with something like a Sennheiser PC37X but at the same time for 50$, the mic sounds better than a lot of more expensive gaming headsets.

This fact was once again noted not only by us, and the MH630 has garnered many recommendations from tech reviewers over time.

The MH630 microphone delivers a lot of vocal clarity and detail and sounds plenty good for any gaming session over Discord or in-game chats. The voice can sound somewhat distant, but at the same time it does not sound compressed or noisy so big thumbs up for a budget headset that puts to shame many microphones out there.

Overall the microphone on the MH630 has an omni-directional pick-up pattern with a microphone frequency response of 50 – 18,000hz. The microphone sensitivity is set to -40 ± 3db (@ 1khz).

It seems the 50$ headset packs quite a punch, doesn’t it?

Build Quality

The MH630 does not exude a necessarily premium feel from its plastic and steel headband construction but it does not feel cheap by any means!

The headband and the ear cushions are padded with mesh fabric that is extremely soft and comfortable to wear. It also does not trap as much heat as leather cushions which is nice to see.

The ear cups on the headphones also have a lot of adjustability being able to practically fit any head size and preference. Even when coming from more expensive headphones the MH630 feels extremely comfortable and light on your head.

The 3.5mm headphone cable and the microphone are also removable which is a nice touch for repairability and long-lasting use. The 3.5mm cable is braided and is quite flexible which means it should last quite a bit.

The microphone is also flexible and can be adjusted for optimal sound pick-up position.

The conclusion is pretty simple when it comes to the build quality of the MH630 – solid headset which should last you a long time!

Extra Features

Although the MH630 lacks superficial things like RGB it has more useful features integrated into the headset. One of such things is a volume wheel on the left ear cup. This will help you adjust your volume on the fly while being in-game or while consuming media.

Another nice feature the MH630 gaming headset has integrated into its left ear cup is a mic mute button. This is nice to have in case you are in a call with your friends but suddenly need to speak to someone next to you in real life.

The feature allows you to mute with one button press and feel confident in your privacy. Overall solid features for a budget headset that punches way above its weight!

Software

Unlike its bigger brother the MH650, the MH630 headset does not have software, but from my experience, this is a plus. The only thing you should be setting up is your mic sensitivity from the Windows sound settings, while everything else works straight from the box.

I’m sorry for you software lovers but a clean straightforward experience is more valuable in this situation.

Conclusions

The Cooler Master MH630 is a neat headset that is priced a lot lower than what you would expect from a headset that delivers this much performance, features and has a solid build quality.

This is a truly impressive piece of technology and anybody that is thinking of purchasing a gaming headset but is on a budget should definitely look at the MH630.

At the same time, this headset is not recommended for people that are using Sennheisers or Beyerdynamics already and want to try something new.
