Wooting 60HE – Useful Advanced Keys Settings

The Wooting 60HE is one of the best 60% gaming keyboards on the market due to the special rapid trigger functionality and custom actuation points. While the hardware itself is good (especially with mods) we should not forget just how amazing the software side of things is for Wooting users.

The Wootility is the best software to accompany a keyboard offering a broad range of functions that can be all tuned and customized to your liking through a web page. One particularly exciting function of the Wooting 60HE and the Wootility is the Advanced Keys capability which makes this keyboard borderline illegal in some games.

What Are Advanced Keys?

The 4th tab in the Wootility is where the magic happens and the place where you can customize 3 different advanced options: Dynamic Keystroke, Mod Tap, and Toggle Key.

  • Dynamic Keystroke allows you to bind up to 4 actions on one key depending on how hard you press the switch.
  • Mod Tap allows you to bind 2 actions to one key depending if you hold said key down or tap it quickly.
  • Toggle Key is as the name suggests the option to lock a key between on or off by tapping it.

Why Are Advanced Keys Amazing?

It doesn’t matter if you use the Wooting for gaming or just office work, being able to bind 4 actions to one key based on the actuation of the switch is pretty mind-boggling.

This might sound like extra functionality that you might never use but is actually quite effective and here is why. For productivity, I am using the Mod Tap on all my profiles to create arrow keys in the bottom right corner of my keyboard. When held down the keys act normally, while when being tapped these act as arrow keys which improves workflow.

While you could be binding 4 abilities to one key with Dynamic Keystroke to achieve insane chain combos in games, currently I simply use it to run in games while only pressing W without having to hold down Shift.

This is an extremely simple (and lazy)implementation of the feature but if you are like me and hate having to hold down extra buttons and the games you play do not have auto-run options then you are in luck.

In essence, the Advanced Keys are capable of what simple scripts like AutoHotKey can do, but completely legal since it all happens on your keyboard.

Is This Bannable?

Even if you have 4 actions bound to one key, since you are pressing the button down to trigger different effects there is no reason to consider this a macro or a script that is bannable. It is also impossible for systems or anti-cheats to be triggered since this happens all on the keyboard and takes full advantage of the custom actuation functionality, rapid trigger, and amazing software. Although there are discussions about banning the Wooting 60HE from certain eSports, unless you participate in said eSports, you are free to make use of any capability the keyboard offers to you.
